Coconino Wins, Flagstaff Upset By Prescott Under The Friday Night Lights

It was a great night for Coconino, a not so good night for Flagstaff Friday at Cromer Stadium at Coconino High School. The unbeaten Panthers racked up 510 yards of total offense, 408 on the ground, to shutout Mohave 56-0 in an afternoon game. Zach Bennett had 13 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns in the win. It was Bennett’s 20th game that he’s rushed for over 100 yards in his career. Sophomore Cooper French had 92 yards rushing on six carries and a touchdown in the second half. Coconino held Mohave to just 40 yards of offense in the game. In the night game Flagstaff and Prescott battled back and forth, but it was the Badgers who pulled the upset with a 38-28 win over the Eagles. Prescott’s one-two punch in the backfield proved to be too much for the Eagles. Senior Nathan Wright had 117 yards rushing and sophomore Cody Leopold had 142 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Brayden Nelson had a touchdown receiving and a pick-six touchdown in the win. The Panthers will host the Bradshaw Mountain Bears Friday night, while the Eagles will host the Cactus Cobras at Cromer Stadium Saturday afternoon.
