The Coconino Panthers remain undefeated, while Flagstaff has lost two in a row as 4A Grand Canyon Region play began Friday night. Coconino scored 28 points in the first quarter en route to a 52-14 win over the Mingus Marauders in Cottonwood. Junior running back Zach Bennett had 20 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Senior fullback Aaron Avitia had six carries for 80 yards and three touchdowns and senior running back/quarterback Beau Gomez had a pair of touchdowns for the Panthers. Coconino improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the region. Mingus is 0-5 and 0-1 in the region. The Flagstaff Eagles trailed 20-7 at halftime, but Prescott pulled away winning 48-7. The Eagles fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in region play. Prescott is 3-2 and 1-0 in the region. Coconino will be back on the road next week as they travel to Prescott Valley to take on the Bradshaw Mountain Bears. Flagstaff will be back in the Skydome for homecoming Friday to take on the Mohave Thunderbirds.
