The Coconino boys and girls basketball teams swept 5A Apollo Monday night. The boys went to Glendale to take on the Hawks. Panthers’ senior guard Memphis James led Coconino with 29 points and senior guard Ivory Washington added 19 as the Panthers knocked off Apollo 65-50 to improve to 3-1 on the season. The girls jumped out to a 24-11 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they beat Apollo at home, 52-23. The Panthers would outscore the Hawks 19-7 in the second half. Senior forward Lorelei Tessmer led Coconino with 13 points and Aviana Scharfenberger added 11 to improve to 2-0 on the season. The girls will host Thunderbird Thursday night, while the boys will head to Peoria to battle the Panthers Wednesday night.
