Even though Northern Arizona forests remain in Stage One fire restrictions, there were still illegal campfires over the weekend. Coconino National Forest officials say there were 15 illegal campfires that forest agents discovered Saturday and Sunday. There’s no word if the fires were abandoned or someone was caught with one. Once again, campfires in the forest are not allowed, unless you are in a maintained campground. With Memorial Day Weekend coming this weekend, there is a strong possibility Stage Two restrictions will be put into play by the end of the week, which would restrict campfires anywhere on area forests.
