There will be several prescribed burns in the Coconino National Forest this week, one will be close to Flagstaff. Fire managers say they will perform a maintenance burn around 135 acres from Tuesday through Friday just east of the Naval Observatory. Smoke is predicted to move to the east, however there is a chance it could blow to the south. Smoke from the fire is expected to be lighter than bigger burns. Smoke will be visible from Flagstaff, Interstate-40, Interstate-17 and Highway’s 89, 89A and 180. Crews will continue to burn on the Upper Beaver Creek project seven miles south of Mormon Lake this week. Then the Mint East burn project will treat over 25-hundred acres southeast of Mormon Lake Village. That burn will last at least through Friday. Smoke from that burn will be seen from Flagstaff and surrounding areas and is expected to move to the northeast.
