The Coconino Panthers participated in the 2022 High Mountain Challenge 7-on-7 football competition at NAU today. The Panthers went 0-for-4, but were close in every game. Coconino lost to Gilbert 20-14, Chaparral 21-20 and Durango, Nevada 13-12 in pool play. Coconino played Chaparral again in the first round of the tournament, falling 20-12. Mingus also went 0-4 and Bradshaw Mountain went 1-2 in pool play with a win over Maricopa, then beat Maricopa again 25-0 in the first round, but fell in the quarterfinals to Betty Fairfax 25-18. Coconino and Flagstaff are slated to play in next Saturday’s tournament at NAU involving 6A through 4A schools.
