All three Grand Canyon Region boys basketball teams are one and done in the 2022 4A Boys Basketball State Playoffs after losses in the Phoenix area Tuesday night. The 11th-seeded Prescott Badgers trailed by two points at halftime over sixth-seeded Mesquite, and even trailed by ten with under three minutes to play, but the Wildcats pulled away to win 93-70. The 13th-seeded Flagstaff Eagles traveled to number-four Deer Valley to take on the Skyhawks. It was all Deer Valley from the start as the Skyhawks won 70-36. The tenth-seeded Coconino Panthers fell down 7-0 in the first quarter, but rallied back to within one, but seventh-seeded Paradise Honors won the first quarter 21-10. Coconino kept close, trailing by around 11 for most of the second and early parts of the third quarter, but Paradise Honors hit more shots down the stretch to win 67-47. Rufus Cobb scored 15 points to lead Coconino. It was the last game for head coach Mike Moran, as he begins his retirement. He coached 19 years at both Flagstaff and Coconino high schools, compiling a record of 331-198 in 529 career games.
