Coconino Falls To Prescott At Home In Overtime For First Loss Of The Season

It was an old-school, knock-down, drag out football game Friday night as the sixth-ranked Prescott Badgers stunned the third-ranked Coconino Panthers at home in overtime, 34-28. The Panthers got out to a great start, when on the first play of their first drive, junior running back Cooper French went 45 yards for a touchdown. But Prescott would score right back and the game was tied at halftime. The two teams would continue to trade scores with French scoring his fourth touchdown of the game with a five-yard scamper with under two minutes to go to tie the game at 28. Prescott was driving with under a minute to go when Cervando Vega fumbled the ball away and we’re headed to overtime. Coconino’s drive stalled out and the Panthers missed a field goal. Prescott drove the ball down and scored off a one-run touchdown run by junior running back Cody Leopold to end the game. Both running backs carried their respective teams. French had 30 carries for 212 yards and four touchdowns to lead Coconino. Leopold had 32 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns for the Badgers. Coconino will be home again next week to face Mingus, while Prescott will take on Mesquite at home.
