Governor Doug Ducey sent 60 National Guard troops to Flagstaff over the weekend to help with sandbagging efforts. About 40 troops will be staying through the week. Coconino County requested priority urgent assistance from the Arizona National Guard Friday to help fill sandbags for flood mitigation on the Schultz-Pipeline flood area. County officials say an additional 600-thousand sandbags are needed. The county already has sandbagging operations with prisoners in Winslow. A prisoner crew in Kingman will also begin making sandbags. The 100 person crew is expected to produce 100-thousand sandbags a week. The United Way of Northern Arizona is also signing up volunteers to make sandbags. The region has experienced three major flooding events in the last two weeks that have damaged homes and properties, including the flood event of Thursday with an estimated 200 homes impacted to various degrees.
