Coconino County Board Of Supervisors Approves Funding For Police Academy In Flagstaff

At their meeting on Tuesday, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved funding for an intergovernmental agreement to certify recruits as peace officers through the new High Country Training Academy in Flagstaff. In the past, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Flagstaff Police Department, and other jurisdictions had to send officer recruits to training academies in Yuma, Tucson, and other cities across the state. After further discussion, the High Country Training Academy will be established in 2023 for use by local and statewide law enforcement agencies. Trainers and instructors will be comprised of Flagstaff Police, Coconino Sheriff’s Deputies, and NAU Police Officers, who know community culture as well as local policies and procedures. Along with approving the new agreement, the board also approved $130-thousand for the fiscal year 2023.
