The Coconino Panthers boys and girls basketball teams tipped off the season Monday night with wins over the Greenway Demons. The girls traveled to the valley to start their season. They come home with a 58-19 victory. The boys used great defense and a tremendous outing by senior guard Ivory Washington to beat Greenway 63-40. Washington scored 23 points and hit four, three-pointers in the win. Senior guard Memphis James scored 12 for Coconino. The win marks the first for new coach Cooper Elliott, who took over the program from Mike Moran after he retired after last season. The Panthers boys will travel to Phoenix Thursday to take on the Thunderbird Titans. The Coconino girls are off until next Monday when they host the Apollo Hawks.
