The Flagstaff Eagles and Coconino Panthers headed down Interstate-17 Tuesday to play the first of their two game series at Chase Field. The Panthers got on the board first, with an RBI triple by Quinn Mickelson that scored Ty Johnson to make it 1-0 after one. Cooper Derr had an RBI double, scoring Jackson Hammond to give Coconino a 2-0 lead. Both pitchers settled in. Flagstaff then took the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a three-RBI double by Teague Van Dyke as the Eagles went up 3-2. The Panthers rallied in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single by Tyler Ragan to put the Panthers up 4-3. Tristen Figueroa and Chad Philpot each had a base hit and Flagstaff had two on and no one out. Philpot went to third on a long tag out of Figueroa between third and home. Coconino’s Jacob Clouse struck out Sylas Richman to end the game as the Panthers won 4-3. Cole Gillespie allowed three runs and stuck out seven in six innings of work for the win. Bodie Maier allowed four runs in five-and-two-thirds for Flagstaff.
