CCSO Deputies Arrested Two Men And Tried To Alert Those Not Evacuated In The “Go” Zone Friday Morning

Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies were busy overnight, trying to reconnect with residents that decided to stay in the “Go” evacuation zone and making two arrests. In the early morning hours of Friday, a spot fire started in the Timberline community west of Highway 89. Deputies recommended to residents who refused to evacuate Tuesday, they may want to leave due to the increased danger. Deputies went door to door and used sirens and loudspeakers in an attempt to wake residents and warn them of the threat. Deputies also arrested two people in the “Go” evacuation area. One was driving a UTV and was attempting to access the closed area in Timberline. Officers discovered he was impaired and arrested him for DUI. Another person ran a roadblock and fled into the closure area. When he fled, he nearly struck public works employees manning the roadblocks, and the deputy who was trying to contact him. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, violating the fire ban, endangerment and felony flight.
