Cases of COVID-19 increased in Coconino County again this week, however the increase wasn’t as much as the week before. County health officials report there were over 34-hundred new cases of the virus in the county between January 9th and the 15th. Around 25-hundred cases were in Flagstaff alone. Most of the cases, according to health officials, remain in the 20-44 year old age group, with the median age 29 years old. This week saw another week of well over two-thousand people who received either their first, second or booster shot of the COVID vaccine. Nearly 20-percent of total positive cases have been vaccine breakthrough cases, with 15-percent of those cases from the Omicron variant. Hospital visits in the county fell about one-and-a-half percent from last week’s numbers to 18-percent. As of Friday morning, Flagstaff Medical Center had 53 COVID-positive patients and 39 total patients in the ICU. There are 235 patients at FMC.
