After nearly a week, Arizona finally has its new governor. Multiple media outlets, including the Associated Press, have declared Democratic candidate and Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, the winner of the 2022 gubernatorial election. The declaration came after a vote dump of around 72-thousand votes Monday night from Maricopa County. As of Tuesday morning, Hobbs leads Republican candidate Kari Lake by over 19-thousand votes, with about 48-thousand votes left to be counted statewide. However about 30-thousand will be coming from counties that have gone to Hobbs so far in the election. Moments after the declaration, Hobbs tweeted, “Democracy is worth the wait. Thank you Arizona. I am honored and so proud to be your next governor.” Lake tweeted later in the evening, “Arizonans know BS when they see it.” Lawsuits against the election are expected to be filed in the near future.
