A reported school shooting turned out to be a hoax in Cottonwood Tuesday afternoon. Cottonwood Police say they responded to Cottonwood Community School in the 300 block of North Willard Street at around 1:13 p.m. When officers arrived immediate actions were taken to secure the area, with surrounding schools promptly implementing soft lockdowns as a precaution. After a swift and thorough search of the school, police determined the call was a hoax, or swatting. Swatting is a false report of an emergency to elicit a heavy police response. Cottonwood Police wants the public to know that there was no active shooter situation and all students and faculty are accounted for and safe. An investigation into this matter is ongoing.
