Westbound Interstate-40 was backed up quite a while Wednesday afternoon, after a semi-truck, owned by a NASCAR team, was involved in an accident west of Flagstaff. Ponderosa Fire officials say the rig went off the left side of the road at milemarker 189, about 11 miles west of Flagstaff at around 4:16 p.m. The semi-truck is owned by Stewart-Haas Racing and was traveling from North Carolina to Las Vegas for a race there this weekend. DPS says the driver of the truck told state troopers he fainted behind the wheel while traveling 75 miles per hour. He lost control of the truck and struck a guardrail. There were two race cars inside the trailer at the time, but DPS says they didn’t appear to suffer any damage. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The driver was taken to Flagstaff Medical Center for evaluation. There’s been no statement from the race team about the accident.
