A Canadian Hiker Passed Away Thursday Afternoon On The Bright Angel Trail In The Grand Canyon

A Canadian hiker passed away on the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon Thursday afternoon. National Park Service officials say 41-year-old Melanie Goodine from Ottawa, Canada was in distress on the trail above Three-Mile Resthouse at around 5 p.m. Soon after, she became unresponsive and bystanders began CPR. All attempts to revive Goodine were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. Park officials remind hikers to drink plenty of fluids, rest in the shade during the heat of the day and watch for distress with traveling companions.
