A Flagstaff bicyclist was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center Sunday and pronounced dead a short time later after she fell 15-20 feet into a rocky area of Schultz Pass. Summit Fire and Medical crews were first on scene. They spotted the victim about a mile-and-a-half to two miles up Schultz Creek Trail. Katie Wittekind had fallen down into the rocks after falling off a mountain bike. Flagstaff Fire crews along with Coconino County Search and Rescue and deputies from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, along with a Guardian helicopter. All agencies worked together to get the patient out of the area to the helicopter, which took the patient to the hospital where she later died. The area is closed to motorized vehicles, but not bicycles and pedestrians.
