Governor Ducey Talks Unity, COVID-19 And Economy In State Of The State Address
Governor Doug Ducey delivered his State of the State address Monday afternoon. Ducey started his address by talking about the rioting at the U.S. Capitol building last week. He says “with resilience and compassion, we move forward, allowing nothing to get in our way, and showing in the end the best kind of unity there is, the unity of caring about one another.” He then went on to talk about COVID-19. Ducey talked about last year being about the virus and this year being about the vaccine. He also says as far as schools are concerned, all should be open. “From every public health profession, from Dr. Fauci and the CDC on down, saying the safest place to be is in school, we will not be funding empty seats, or allowing schools to be in a perpetual state of closure.” As for lockdowns, Ducey says that won’t be happening in Arizona, stating “for many families “lockdown” doesn’t spell inconvenience; it spells catastrophe.” He adds what lockdowns mean for families is “zero income, inability to make a payment, eviction, foreclosure, and real personal anguish.” He called for lowering taxes and finished his address by reminding people to wear a mask, social distance and practice personal responsibility.

When this started last March, I thought Ducey was actually doing a fairly good job. But now, as our State becomes the worst in the WORLD, he is doing nothing. And his saying that he will withold funding for schools if they don’t open makes me furious! How dare him threaten to withold MY tax money because schools want to be sure that teachers and students are safe! He has absolutely NO IDEA what it’s like to be a teacher in a classroom. If he wants to make those kind of statements than I challenge him to spend one week, heck even one day in a classroom!!! He has no clue!!!!!!!! Our teachers are heroes that have gone unnoticed!!!
I agree with Terri. As a retired teacher, I’ve watched as Education is the scapegoat for Ducey and the Republicans in the legislature. After stealing from us, he now threatens to cut funding again. What is this obsession the Rs have about education? They don’t have a clue about an educated populace being the most important element to a society-we could stop being #1 in prison construction, #1 in Covid cases, and 49th in US education. But maybe that’s how they want it.
