A search for a former NAU professor who was recently arrested and indicted by a federal grand jury on stalking charges has been called off when she was found in federal prison. The “Daily Sun” reports 36-year-old Melissa Santana missed her court date last week because she is in federal prison in Florence while she awaits trial in March. Santana was indicted on five counts of felony stalking, one involving a student, and three counts of giving false information to law enforcement. She pleaded not guilty to the charges last month. Santana is accused of stalking and harassing two firefighters from the Flagstaff Hotshot wildland fire crew, as well as three others, including an NAU student. Santana was arrested on campus back on October 30th. It appears there was a miscommunication between federal and local officials in regards to Santana.
