A former NAU employee has been indicted on six felony counts after he was found to have been embezzling over 354-thousand dollars. The Office of the Auditor General says former university postal services manager Edwin Talley worked at NAU for over 15 years between July 1997 and January of 2013. During that time he allegedly embezzled money that came from university revenues that consisted primarily of state appropriations and students’ tuition and fee payments that should have been used to pay for services provided to the students. He caused NAU to issue 245 checks and make 12 credit card payments to two fictitious vendors he created. The majority of the checks were fraudulently endorsed and deposited into a credit union account. When NAU implemented new accounting software in 2012, that’s when the scheme was discovered.
