Former Flagstaff Police officer Jeffrey Bonar has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault. The plea came Tuesday morning at the Coconino County Courthouse in Flagstaff. Bonar is accused of striking Marissa Morris, which was caught on camera and went viral back in November of 2016. Bonar went to Morris’ residence to help serve an eviction notice, when he remembered Morris may have had a warrant for her arrest. When trying to arrest Morris, he hit her in the face. After checking on the warrant, it showed Morris was cleared. He was originally charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault, but the case was thrown out and sent back to the grand jury. Bonar, now known as Jeffrey Wilson, was sentenced to 18 months unsupervised probation and won’t spend any time in jail as long as he abides by the terms of the probation. Morris filed a civil suit against the City of Flagstaff for one-million dollars, but reached a settlement with the city for 85-thousand dollars earlier this year.
