Students from Coconino High School and other Flagstaff Unified School District School got a rare opportunity to ask questions to an astronaut currently on the International Space Station Wednesday. In the 20 minute session, about ten questions were asked of Astronaut Anne McClain, ranging from is a bubble different in space than on earth and how much of what she learned in high school does she use today, which drew a laugh from the crowd of about 600 people. Her response was genuine. McClain told the students “in high school, you’re learning how to learn and you’re showing, you are demonstrating, your maturity and your level of responsibility by how dedicated you are to it.” NASA announced later in the day that McClain would be a part of the first-ever all-female spacewalk at the International Space Station later this month. Today’s event was orchestrated by Lowell Observatory, Coconino High School and the Flagstaff Unified School District.
