The Flagstaff Eagles and Coconino Panthers boys and girls basketball teams had dominating wins as they began Grand Canyon Region play Tuesday night. The Eagles traveled to Prescott to take on the Badgers. The girls won their region opener, 57-19. The boys were equally as dominating as the jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as the Eagles beat Prescott, 71-45. Coconino played not only their region opener, but it was their home opener Tuesday night against Mohave. The girls had no problem with the Thunderbirds as they won 59-25. Brennan Motes scored 21 points and Preston Olney added 17 as the Panthers beat Mohave, 88-54. Flagstaff and Coconino’s boys and girls basketball teams will play in the Flagstaff Holiday Classic beginning Thursday at Sinagua Middle School.
