The Flagstaff City Council discussed and voted on an ordinance Tuesday that would ban smoking from in and around city parks and cemeteries, but is a full city ban right around the corner? The council passed the ordinance 6-1. Councilwoman Eva Putzova was the lone no vote, because she thought it didn’t do enough to ban tobacco. She is calling for the council to look into banning the use and sale of tobacco in Flagstaff, including smoking in homes and vehicles. At the end of the night, she called for a future agenda item request to look into that possibility. Councilman Jim McCarthy says he would like to see smokeless tobacco added to the ordinance and wanted an agenda request for that as well. When the dust settled, council went into a work session. They agreed to move the municipal ID card and right of way signs issues onto a future meeting. They also agreed that a council commission should be established to further look at Flagstaff’s new transportation plan. The council met for nearly four hours at the Coconino County Board of Supervisors Chambers.
