The Flagstaff City Council is moving ahead on a plan to use three city land parcels for affordable housing, with one that faced strong opposition from the public. The council voted 5-2 to advance the parcels on West Street, on Izabel Street and off Fort Valley Road. The two lone holdouts on the project were councilmen Charlie Odegaard and Jim McCarthy. Both wanted city staff to go with another parcel and leave the Fort Valley parcel as open space. Many speakers spoke on the Fort Valley parcel, expressing their opposition for use of specific piece of land for affordable housing. The request for proposals on developing the parcels will be sent out in the coming weeks.
