The Flagstaff and Coconino boys basketball teams picked up big wins Monday. The Flagstaff Eagles got out to a slow start, but took the lead before halftime and never looked back as they beat the Lee Williams Volunteers, 53-46. Josh Lenners had 13 points and Nick Sneezy had ten for the Eagles, who have won three straight games. The Eagles’ next three games are season defining. They will travel to Bradshaw Mountain Tuesday to play the Bears. Then they will go to one-loss Deer Valley Thursday and home to play Prescott Friday. All three teams are ranked higher than Flagstaff. The Coconino Panthers improved to 11-0 on the season with a 42-35 win on the road against Prescott. It was a defensive struggle that had Coconino on the ropes through the entire game. However, the Panthers outscored the Badgers 14-6 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win. Manuel Cardoza led Coconino with 11 points and Jacob Begay scored 10 for the Panthers. Leading scorer Preston Olney went 1-for-11 for three points in the win. Coconino will play again Tuesday night in Phoenix against Shadow Mountain.
