Firefighters took care of a small wildfire last week near Williams, but not without a problem. Kaibab National Forest officials say the fire broke out on Thursday near Oak and 11th streets at around 12:45 p.m. The Williams Fire was on the southwest side of Cemetery Hill and was less than a quarter mile from residences. Fire managers were prepared to use a helicopter to drop water on the fire, but someone using a drone was flying over the fire. Eventually the drone left the area and the helicopter could work the fire. The blaze was contained to less than an acre. Forest officials remind the drone operators to stay out of the area of wildfires so crews can work on containing the fire. Unauthorized use of drone flights could cause serious injury or even death to firefighters in the air or on the ground.
