A Cottonwood man was arrested after he was seen throwing beer cans out of the window of his truck with his kids inside the vehicle. Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Country Store on Western Drive and Highway 260 in Cottonwood at around 4 p.m. Saturday. The first deputy arrived and found 40-year-old Christian Mattos asleep at the wheel of a running white Toyota pickup truck. IN the back seat of the truck were two and three year old boys. The deputy turned off the truck and checked on the kids. They were upset, but otherwise ok. Additional deputies arrived and when Mattos awoke, his speech was slurred and he was confused. A breathalyzer test onsite showed Mattos had a .21 blood alcohol content, which is nearly three-times the legal limit. He was arrested on charges of aggravated DUI and two counts of endangerment. The children were turned over to their mother at the scene.
