Coconino High School has hired varsity boys basketball coach Mike Moran as its new head football coach. The decision was announced by the school Thursday. This will be Moran’s first job as a head coach for football, but has spent a lot of time as an assistant coach. Coconino athletic director Eric Fries says Moran got the job because of his “vast administrative and coaching experience.” Moran has had success with the basketball team this year, leading them to the lead in the region. Moran replaces Jeremiah Smith, who resigned as coach at the end of the season due to a family decision. Smith’s last game was a victory over Flagstaff, 12-10 in the City Championship Game.
