Coconino County is giving away free firewood on Saturday. Officials say there are around 25 cords of pine that will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The giveaway will be at Fort Tuthill County Park near the archery range starting at 8 a.m. The wood won’t be ready to burn this winter because it was cut this fall and is still green. The wood is cut to firewood length, which is 18-inches or less, but isn’t split. The wood giveaway is a result of recent forest thinning efforts to reduce the threat of larger wildfires in the future.
