The Coconino County Attorney’s Office is seeing a windfall of cases, which is causing a backup. In Fiscal Year 2018, from July 1st of 2017 until June 30th 2018, the office had just over 19-hundred felony charging requests and issued charges in just over 15-hundred of those cases. Country attorney Bill Ring told KAFF News the 400 case difference are those cases still under investigation. He says they also saw over three-thousand cases that are charged as misdemeanors. Ring says at the end of the fiscal year, there were nearly 18-hundred open cases. Ring credits his staff of just over 40 to getting through cases with professionalism and in a timely manner.
