Yavapai County Sheriff’s K9 “Max” helped deputies uncover ten pounds of meth during a traffic stop Thursday on eastbound Interstate-40 in Ash Fork. At around 11:30 a.m. deputies pulled over a gold GMC Envoy with Missouri plates for a moving violation. The deputy questioned 67-year-old Edward Fitzgerald from Missouri about his travel plans. When the discussion turned to drugs, Fitzgerald tried to change the subject and denied a request to search the vehicle. K-9 “Max” did a “free air” sniff around the vehicle and alerted deputies. They found two metal food containers on the backseat underneath a blanket and pillow. After opening the cans, the meth was in two vacuum sealed bags. A .22 caliber revolver was also found in the vehicle. Fitzgerald was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges related to the incident. He is in custody on $50-thousand bond.
