The Coconino County Detention Facility in Flagstaff has seven COVID-19 positive inmates, as of Thursday, according to Sheriff’s officials. There are currently no staff members who are COVID-19 positive. To date there have been 59 inmates and 13 staff that have tested positive since the virus started to be detected in the county. There are no inmates or staff that are positive in the Page facility. Sheriff’s officials say the jail’s daily population is around 300 with dips into the 280s occasionally. If the population continues to go up, officials will consider or removing the 14-day quarantine that all go through before being moved to general population. The quarantine has been vital in mitigating the virus from spreading in the jail. Each inmate continues to be given a surgical mask and are required to wear it when an inmate leaves a housing unit for any reason. Staff are also required to wear a mask at all times while on shift, unless they are in an area where they are able to remain more than six feet away from another person, or when wearing a mask may hinder an officer during an emergency situation.
