The Navajo Nation has issued guidelines and a plan to slowly and carefully reopen the reservation. President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer introduced the “Navajo Nation Reopening Plan” Thursday. The plan includes safety guidelines for residents to follow through the duration of the pandemic and directs businesses to implement policies and procedures. The tribe has instituted a color-guided scale of reopening. Red is for high restrictions, orange is moderate-high, yellow is moderate-low and green is low restrictions. The Navajo Nation currently is in orange, or moderate-high. That means businesses can reopen with 25-percent capacity, restaurants, banks, etc are drive-through only, barber shops and salons are by appointment only and marinas and parks can reopen, but with strict compliance. Not allowed to reopen are youth programs, casinos, museums, flea markets, roadside markets, gyms, recreation facilities and movie theaters. Casinos won’t be allowed to reopen until green conditions. The plan takes effect on Monday.
