As cases of COVID-19 increase around the state and the country, there is some good news regarding the coronavirus. David Engelthaler, co-director of TGen North of Flagstaff, joined Peter and Dave Thursday morning on KAFF Country 93.5/AM 930 and says there may a coronavirus vaccine ready to go soon. He says “in the next week or so, we will have at least one, if not two, groups handing their information off to the FDA for likely rapid approval.” Engelthaler says the reason for the fast approval “is because there is really good data behind them, so they are going to take their time and look at it, but it’s going to be a few weeks at most to get a stamp of approval.” He says once the FDA approves the vaccines, they will be immediately shipped to cities across the country. How that gets distributed isn’t known. Engelthaler reinforces the need for people to wear masks, social distance and wash your hands until a vaccine can circulate and help increase herd immunity. Over 21-hundred new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Arizona Thursday.
