The South Rim of the Grand Canyon will reopen, seven days a week, starting at 4 a.m. Friday. National Park officials say the south entrance to the park will be open from 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily, however visitors inside the park after 2 p.m. can stay inside until sunset. Then on June 5th, the South Rim’s south entrance and Mather Campground will be open 24/7, with existing reservations only for the campground. Also, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon will be open for day use starting June 5th. On June 14th, the park will initiate phased reopening of Colorado River commercial, noncommercial and administrative trips until further notice. Residential areas, the east entrance of the South Rim, Desert View watchtower and Desert View campground will remain closed for the time being. However, lodging at both rims will begin a phased reopening in June and visitors should check reservation sites for their availability. The Grand Canyon is under Stage Two fire restrictions, which means no campfires or wood, coal, charcoal or wood stove burning is allowed. Standard daily fees will be collected either by automation at the entrance or online at recreation.gov.
