The Coconino National Forest has begun restoration efforts in Hart Prairie Meadow north of Flagstaff. Restoration work began the last week of May and will continue through the summer, which includes removing tree encroachment into the meadow that has occurred over the last 150 years. This work will help restore meadow habitat, hydrologic processes, increase stream flows, restore and maintain healthy grasses, as well as help improve watershed conditions in a headwater tributary of the Verde River watershed. No trail or area closures are expected while work is ongoing, but the public should use caution when in the area of Hart Prairie being worked on.
