The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $350-thousand grant to Northern Arizona University. The grant is to support the establishment of a workforce development program focused on the forest products industry. The EDA grant will be matched with just over $87-thousand in local investment. Dana Gartzke, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development says “this EDA investment will allow Northern Arizona University to establish a program to create more employment opportunities in a sustainable industry and diversify the region’s economy.” The program will be known as the Forest Operations Training Center.
