The 2020 Monsoon season has begun in Arizona. However, we typically don’t see Monsoon storms until around the Fourth of July. Last year we had a late start to storms, which led to the ninth-driest Monsoon on record and the third warmest. The National Weather Service says a wet Monsoon typical follows a dry one, but it’s up in the air on how the 2020 season will turn out. Flagstaff averages over eight inches of rain a season, Prescott sees nearly eight inches of rain, Cottonwood about five-and-a-half inches and over three inches of rain falls in Winslow on average each season. The wettest Monsoon on record for Flagstaff is 20 inches back in 1986, while the driest was 2.31 inches of rain in 1978. In Prescott, the wettest Monsoon was just over 18 inches of rain in 2014, while the driest was 2.29 inches of rain in 1900. The Monsoon season runs from June 15th until September 30th.
