For the first time in a year, students in the Flagstaff Unified School District went back to in-person learning today. Students in grades K-through-6, as well as freshmen and seniors in high school headed back into the classroom after being away from a physical school building since last March due to COVID-19. Local law enforcement officials remind commuters to be extra vigilant when driving around children, school buses and bus stops, as well as school zones now that kids are heading back to school. Officers will have an increased presence in and around schools, and there will be extra enforcement activities. Officers and deputies will be looking for speeders, distracted drivers, drivers passing school buses stopped for children and reckless drivers in neighborhoods. Remember, always follow the directions of crossing guards and don’t use your cell phone while driving. Grades seventh, eighth, tenth and 11th will return to in-person classes next Monday.
