The Grand Falls Recreational Area east of Flagstaff, on the Navajo Nation, remains closed. The area is maintained by the Leupp Chapter House and recreational areas on the reservation remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Area residents tell KAFF News regardless of the closure, tourists are going around barriers and ignoring the closure to get to the falls. The falls have been closed for over a year due to the pandemic. The Navajo Nation has lifted the “shelter-in-place” order, but kept Navajo Tribal parks closed. Tribal officials say, “as we start to see some light at the end of the tunnel, we would like for all travelers to be patient and understand that the Navajo Nation will gradually reopen when public health experts determine it’s safe. For now, we are following all NDOH Guidelines and keeping the Navajo Nation Tribal Parks closed.” For more information, log onto navajonationparks.org.
