Governor Doug Ducey, along with state health officials, have rescinded orders that direct K-12 schools in Arizona to require masks. Ducey said in a statement, even though the mask order is rescinded, “K-12 school districts and charter schools still maintain the right to institute and enforce policies to mitigate against COVID-19 spread, including the use of masks.” He adds, “teachers, families and students have acted responsibly to mitigate the spread of the virus and protect one another, and our school leaders are ready to decide if masks should be required on their campuses.” The Flagstaff Unified School District released a statement saying, “FUSD will continue to follow the adopted mitigation plan that includes the wearing of masks for students, staff and community members when at FUSD facilities and activities.” Officials with the Humboldt Unified School District say masks are no longer required at HUSD schools, however they will be encouraged, as well as washing hands and social distancing. Masks are also no longer required at Chino Valley. Williams school officials say masks will still be mandatory until at least midday Thursday when the district will have further direction.
