The Flagstaff Eagles and Coconino Panthers are 2-0 to start the high school football season. Coconino had a tight game in Kingman but beat the Lee Williams Volunteers, 28-21. Senior running back Zack Bennett had 231 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the win. The Panthers will head to Prescott next Friday to take on the Badgers, who fell to Apache Junction Friday 23-20. The Flagstaff Eagles had a 28-12 halftime lead over the Bradshaw Mountain Bears and were outscored 16-0 in the second half. The Bears tied the game at 28 with :58 seconds to play, when the Eagles Jace Wetzel returned the kick to the 22 yard line. The Eagles set up for the winning field goal but it was blocked, so overtime we go. The Bears kicked a field goal to make it 31-28, but on fourth and goal at the one Flagstaff senior running back Luis Jaramillo scores to win the game for the Eagles 34-31. Flagstaff will head to Bullhead City next Friday to take on the Mohave Thunderbirds.
