Flagstaff Police responded Saturday to a social media post, regarding an alleged assault by “four young people” on a Native American man Thursday night. Authorities say they received a call at around 7:42 p.m. from a citizen stating that a man was sitting near the sidewalk in the 100 block of East Butler, bleeding from his nose. Officers located Shane Russell, and another man, at the bus stop at San Francisco and Butler, urinating on the bench. Authorities say Russell was “extremely intoxicated at the time, appearing to have difficulty walking.” Russell told officers that he was hit with a stick and provided no description of the suspects. People around Russell at the time didn’t see anybody around. Officers did notice a small pool of blood in front of the Speedway gas station. Police say the social media post was very inconsistent to what Russell had told them that night. The post said four young white people attacked him with a bat, steel pipe and skateboards. The post also said Russell didn’t make a make a police report because the police “would not do a damn thing.” Authorities are investigating the case and two police reports have been filed. Officers body camera videos were also captured during questioning with Russell. If anyone has information about the incident, contact Flagstaff Police at (928) 774-1414 or call Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111.
