The Flagstaff City Council voted Tuesday to adopt an amendment to the city zoning codes on affordable housing incentives, which the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended for approval last week. Councilmembers discussed possible additions to the amendment regarding public outreach to potential affordable housing residents after a public comment urged them to take extra steps toward fair communication with stakeholders other than the property developers specifically mentioned in the amendment. Several councilmembers advocated adding language to specify this, but Mayor Paul Deasy, and Councilmember Austin Aslan considered it unnecessary, though the council voted unanimously to adopt the amendment with such additions. The council also voted to award Eagle Mountain Construction a contract to build a new parking lot at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport and to adopt an ordinance in regards to police regulations on recreational marijuana.
