Multiple fire crews held the Deer Fire, that started north of Flagstaff Friday, to just eight acres. The fire started early in the afternoon about six miles north of Snowbowl Road off of Highway 180 and Forest Road 247. The fire was in an area that was previously thinned and maintained, which gave crews a chance to tend to it quickly and limit its spread. The fire was human-caused since there was no lightning in the area, but the exact start is under investigation. Crews from Summit Fire and Medical and the Forest Service, including a hot shot crew from Nevada, tended to the Deer Fire. No structures were threatened or lost in the fire.
