Cottonwood Police arrested two people on drug charges during interdiction operations on Interstate-17 near Camp Verde last Saturday. At about 11:00 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Grey Toyota RAV4 for unsafe following distance. During the stop, the driver was identified as 53-year old Odilon Campana from Tucson. The passenger was identified as 56-year old, Martha Barajas-Ruiz, also from Tucson. K-9 “Kratos” was deployed to conduct a narcotics sniff where he alerted on the vehicle. A search revealed a black duffel bag in the trunk. The bag contained five plastic tubes with approximately 38 pounds of crystal meth. Campana and Barajas-Ruiz were arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Detention Center for Transporting Dangerous Drug for Sale, Possession of Dangerous Drug for Sale and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. They remain in the Yavapai County Jail on a cash only bond of $50-thousand. Investigators estimate a street value on the drugs is around $200-thousand. The investigation is ongoing.
