Forest Service personnel encountered numerous illegal campfires on the Coconino National Forest over the weekend. Forest officials say there were more than 58 illegal campfires, with six human caused wildfires on the forest. Most of the wildfires were caused by abandoned campfires. Officials say they had more than 58 calls for illegal campfires, but due to manpower issues they couldn’t get to all of them. As for trash, forest officials say there were no reports of large areas of trash left behind across the forest, even in larger populated areas like C.C. Cragin Reservoir, Knoll Lake and the Oak Creek Canyon area. The forest has been full of campers for the last few weeks and that is expected to continue for the time being.
